Recently, 22-year-old Chinese student Xu Yang received a Guinness World Records certificate for achieving the "fastest ground speed by a remote-controlled micro quadcopter." His self-built drone set the record at an astonishing 340.78 kilometers per hour-even more impressive given that it weighs just 250 grams, lighter than an iPhone 14. Guinness officials hailed Xu's achievement as a "milestone in micro-drone design and propulsion engineering."
Though only 22, Xu is a seasoned RC hobbyist with a decade of experience. In an interview with the Post, he said, "I saw an overseas creator build a similar micro quadcopter, but I thought I could outperform him. The process was full of challenges, including crashes, but behind this success were countless failures and iterations."
Xu also runs a Bilibili channel where he has earned a strong reputation among RC hobbyists. "Most of China's top RC creators are on Bilibili.com, and I've learned so much through exchanging ideas with them. Among speed challengers, it's not about competition-it's about collaboration and mutual support," he said. "Experience is everything in our field. If anyone attempts to break this record in the future, I'll gladly share everything I know to help."
