Chinese FM spokesperson Mao Ning

A fishing vessel named Hongcaitou No.6 from the Taiwan island was recently detained by a Japanese patrol vessel on the grounds of violating fisheries regulations and was only released after paying a hefty bail. Last year, China lodged a protest over Japan's detention of a Taiwan fishing boat. In response to whether China has lodged protest this time to the Japanese side, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that the Chinese government places great importance on safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese fishermen, including those from the Taiwan region. 

According to the China-Japan Fisheries Agreement, Japan has no right to take law enforcement actions against Chinese fishing vessels in the relevant waters. Regarding Japan's recent detention of the Hongcaitou No. 6, China has lodged a stern protest, demanding that Japan immediately correct its wrongful actions and take effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, said Mao.
