In response to a question about China reportedly removing a buoy in the South China Sea, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday that placing meteorological observation buoys in waters under China's jurisdiction east of the island of Taiwan complies with both domestic and international law.

We learned that relevant Chinese authorities are carrying out routine maintenance on the buoys as needed, Mao said.
