Dalian public security bureau in Northeast China's Liaoning Province issued Tuesday a public notice that they have caught a Chinese male who is a suspect in the killing of two Japanese nationals. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson also confirmed the case during Tuesday's regular press briefing in response to media inquiries.
The police release stated that on May 23, 2025, public security bureau of Dalian received a report of a criminal case in which two individuals were killed in the Daliujia Street area of Pulandian District. On May 24, the bureau apprehended the suspect, surnamed Yuan, male, 42 years old, Chinese nationality, who is a long-term resident of Japan.
After several days of investigation, the details of the case have been clarified. The two victims were Japanese nationals who had temporarily entered the country and were business partners of Yuan during his time in Japan. The incident arose from a dispute related to their business cooperation.
Currently, Yuan has been criminally detained by the police, and the case will be further investigated before being legally transferred to the procuratorial authorities for prosecution.
Relevant departments of Dalian in recent days have informed the families of the victims in Japan in accordance with laws about the case details, and the families have expressed no objections. The relevant departments have assisted in handling the cremation of the remains and other matters, and the victims' families returned to Japan on June 1.
When asked to provide more details regarding the killing of two Japanese nationals in Dalian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday that on May 23, public security authorities in Dalian received a report on a criminal case involving two deaths. Preliminary investigation shows that the victims were Japanese nationals who were business partners of the suspect, and that the case was caused by a dispute in their business cooperation.
Lin stated that the case is undergoing further investigation and Chinese authorities will handle the case in accordance with the law.
The Global Times learned from the Japanese Embassy in China on Tuesday that the Consulate-General of Japan in Shenyang received a notice from the Liaoning public security authorities on May 25 regarding the killing of two Japanese nationals in Dalian, with the suspect already apprehended.
The embassy stated that it has provided necessary assistance to the victims' families and will continue to respond appropriately in line with its duty to protect Japanese nationals abroad.
