Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing on Wednesday, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Congratulating Lukashenko again on his reelection as the president of Belarus, Xi said the two countries are true friends and good partners, treating each other with sincerity and trust.
Noting China and Belarus share enduring traditional friendship, formidable political mutual trust and growing cooperation in all fields, Xi said China has always viewed and developed China-Belarus relations from a strategic and a long-term perspective, per Xinhua.
Xi said China is willing to work with Belarus to promote the steady development of bilateral ties and win-win cooperation.
Friendship and cooperationLukashenko, who is on his 15th visit to China, said that he has felt a genuine sense of friendship from China during each of his trips, Xinhua reported.
Thanking China for its long-term strong support and assistance to his country, he said Belarus has high-degree trusts in China and will actively advance cooperation with China.
The visit to China was successful, Lukashenko told journalists before leaving Beijing, BelTA reported on Wednesday. "Everything went perfectly well. I have met with my friend and we have talked. We agreed that we should intensify our interaction. It was very fruitful," the Belarusian president said.
Belarus and China have agreed to launch joint pilot projects that aim to create joint production facilities based on scientific research, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Sergei Shlychkov told BelTA on Wednesday.
According to BelTA, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told the media in Beijing on Tuesday that the visit by Lukashenko, which "serves as an example of friendship and the commitment" of the two sides to joint development, is unique in many ways.
"The international community should follow the example of friendship, mutual support, and joint development between Belarus and China," Snopkov was quoted as saying.
Belarus is an important partner of China in global and regional diplomacy, with rapidly developing relations over the past decade, marked by political and strategic mutual trust. Both sides support each other on issues concerning their core interests and closely collaborate in international and multilateral settings, Zhang Hong, a research fellow at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Wednesday.
The emphasis by two leaders on the friendship and strategic relationship highlights the continuity, strategic nature, and long-term perspective of China-Belarus relations, said Zhang.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the relationship between China and Belarus has continued to deepen, and the bilateral relations have now been upgraded to all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership.
Lukashenko emphasized the importance of the visit to China for the development of the country as he spoke at a meeting with the chairpersons of oblast executive committees and Minsk City Hall earlier in January, BelTA has learned.
"Cooperation with China is a great thing," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
During his meeting with representatives of the Chinese business community on Tuesday in Beijing, Lukashenko said technological modernization of the manufacturing industry is one of the major items on the Belarus-China agenda, the BelTA reported.
Chinese experts also said they expect cooperation in areas such as culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries to be further strengthened. Efforts will be made to develop flagship projects and further amplify the leading role of the Great Stone China-Belarus Industrial Park.
Alexander Chervyakov, Belarusian Ambassador to China said that "The key direction is clearly defined—the modernization of our economy through Chinese technologies. This momentum has been further reinforced by the signing of pivotal agreements between our industrial ministries, outlining a development strategy for the industrial complex over the next five years," Belarusian media reported on Monday.
"Significant projects in machinery manufacturing, woodworking, chemical industries, and more have been identified. What was once mere words on paper last year is now beginning to manifest itself in specific actions," said the Ambassador.
Safeguard intl fairness, justiceDuring meeting with Lukashenko, Xi called on both sides to further enhance coordination and cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), jointly oppose hegemony and bullying, and safeguard international fairness and justice, Xinhua reported.
Lukashenko, according to Xinhua, said China sets an example for the world by upholding multilateralism and opposing unilateralism and sanctions and pressure. He expressed admiration for China and willingness to work with China to safeguard international fairness and justice.
Zhao Huirong, an Eastern European studies expert from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told Global Times that China and Belarus are sincere and reliable strategic partners of each other with many similar diplomatic principles. "Both oppose blatant interference in other countries' internal affairs, advocate for an UN-led international order, and seek to promote peace through dialogue," Zhao said.
By enhancing bilateral dialogue and coordination within multilateral mechanisms, China and Belarus could play a more constructive role in jointly promoting global peace and stability, as well as addressing global challenges, Zhao said.
