Regarding the ongoing law enforcement operations in multiple areas of the Los Angeles region, the Consulate General of China in Los Angeles immediately activated its consular protection emergency response mechanism. It has not received requests for assistance from Chinese nationals as of now, the Consulate General told the Global Times on Tuesday.
Protests in and around Los Angeles erupted on Friday after federal immigration agents arrested at least 44 people. The arrests come amid US president Donald Trump's crackdown on immigration, which has involved waves of raids and deportations across the country, CNN reported.
According to another report from CNN on Monday local time, Trump has ordered the Department of Defense to deploy an additional 2,000 California National Guard members to the Los Angeles area to support ICE amid ongoing protests in the city. The latest deployment comes on the same day California filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, asking a judge to declare the deployments unconstitutional.
