"We will continue to take effective measures according to the law to pursue relentlessly and never to treat lightly," Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Wednesday in response to inquiries on police in South China's Guangdong Province releasing a wanted notice for 20 suspected hackers linked to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities.
Zhu said that this marks the public security authorities' first move against "Taiwan independence" separatist forces through law enforcement action, focusing on cracking down on the organized cyber illegal and criminal activities of the island's "Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command."
The Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau's Tianhe District Branch has released a wanted notice on June 5 with reward to capture 20 DPP-linked suspects from the Taiwan island who were involved in cyberattacks.
Commenting on claims by Taiwan island's so-called "mainland affairs council" that the mainland's such move aimed to create the "wrong impression" that the island is governed by the mainland and the council's threat on the island's residents against providing assistance, Zhu said that both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one China, and the island is a part of China. Anyone who endangers national sovereignty, security, and development interests will not escape the sanctions of national law.
The DPP authorities manipulate the "Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command" to frequently launch indiscriminate attacks on mainland cyber facilities, disrupting social order and harming the interests of the public, with clear facts and solid evidence, Zhu said.
"First, we will use judicial channels to crack down severely on the 20 wanted suspects according to the law. Second, we will include all personnel of the 'Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command' in the key supervision scope, and strike them severely according to the law once discovering their illegal and criminal activities. Third, we will resolutely hit according to the law on the DPP authorities colluding secretly with external forces to manipulate the 'Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command' to launch cyber-attacks on the mainland," Zhu said.
