In response to media reports that Lin Yuntuan recently assumed the role of auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Fuzhou and he is the first Chinese bishop approved by Pope Leo XIV since the Vatican signed a provisional agreement with China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that China and the Vatican have maintained communication and enhanced understanding and mutual trust through constructive dialogue in recent years. With the joint efforts of both sides, the provisional agreement on the appointment of bishops has been smoothly implemented. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Vatican to continuously improve China-Vatican relations.
