Chen sacrificed his life to safeguard national sovereignty and territory during the China-India border clash in Galwan Valley in June 15, 2020.

Yao Jiusui, Chen's mother, was invited to unveil the nameplate, CCTV reported.

Chen attended Pingcheng junior high school from September 2014 to July 2017.

Born in 2001, Chen enlisted in the military in September 2019. In June 2020, during a border defense conflict, Chen fought bravely and sacrificed his life. In 2021, Chen was posthumously awarded a first-class merit citation by the Central Military Commission, CCTV reported.

"My pure love is only for China" was Chen's battle phrase during his lifetime, according to CCTV.

Following deliberation, the government of Pingnan County agreed in principle to add the name "Pingnan County Xiangrong Junior High School" to Pingcheng Junior High School, named after Chen's first name, according to the People's Daily on May 13.
