The Monday flight CZ333 from South China’s Guangzhou to Doha was disrupted due to "an incident that may affect flight safety," and is currently at Muscat International Airport in Oman, the Global Times learned from China Southern Airlines on Tuesday, after reports that the flight was diverted due to Iran’s missile launch toward a US military base in Qatar.
Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had begun a missile campaign dubbed the "Annunciation of Victory," targeting US bases in both Iraq and Qatar, the Xinhua News Agency reported early Tuesday morning.
The Global Times telephoned China Southern Airlines and learned that flight was scheduled to depart at 19:48 on Monday from Guangzhou, but was disrupted due to "an incident that may affect flight safety." The aircraft is currently at Muscat International Airport and was scheduled to depart at 9:10, but there is no confirmation yet of an actual takeoff.
According to China Southern Airlines, the flight is scheduled for 7:30 pm and is currently operating normally. Flights from Guangzhou to Dubai are largely unaffected — Monday’s flight to Dubai also departed as scheduled.
According to Xinhua, Iran’s missile launching prompted widespread temporary airspace closures. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates had shut their airspace prior to the attack, while Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq followed suit after the attack.
