The flood control and drought relief headquarters of the People's Government of Rongjiang County, in Southwest China's Guizhou Province on Saturday issued a notice, upgrading the emergency response from Level II to Level I, according to CCTV News.

The Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday afternoon that various units and departments in Rongjiang were organizing the relocation of urban residents to safe areas. Townships such as Dingwei and Tashi were experiencing severe flood conditions, and local authorities are actively evacuating affected populations, according to Xinhua.

The National Development and Reform Commission has urgently allocated an additional 100 million yuan ($14 million) from the central budgetary investment to support the post-disaster emergency recovery in SW China's Guizhou affected by severe floods, per Xinhua.

According to hydrological forecasts, the Duliujiang River's hydrological station in Rongjiang County is expected to reach a peak water level of 253.5 meters (with a corresponding peak flow of 8,360 cubic meters per second) around 5 pm on Saturday, exceeding the guaranteed water level by 2 meters, the notice said.

After consultation and analysis, the flood control and drought relief headquarters decided to upgrade the Flood Response No. 6 previously issued from Level II to Level I, effective from 12:30pm on Saturday, according to notice.

Continuous heavy rainfall that triggered severe flooding in the province since Tuesday had claimed six lives in Rongjiang County as of 11 am on Thursday, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Severe flooding triggered by ongoing heavy rainfall and upstream inflows have prompted mass evacuations in Rongjiang and Congjiang counties of Guizhou. As of 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 48,900 residents in Rongjiang and 32,000 in Congjiang had been temporarily evacuated. The emergency response had been escalated to level I, the highest, in both counties, according to Xinhua.
