Asked whether China is aware of the individuals involved in a potential TikTok acquisition and whether China will approve the deal, after US President Donald Trump claimed that a group of "very wealthy people" is willing to acquire the platform but the deal will probably need China's approval to move forward, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday that China has repeatedly stated its principled position on the TikTok issue.

Previously, at a press briefing in April, asked to comment on relevant US claims regarding TikTok, Lin Jian, another spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said that "we have stated our principled position on TikTok on multiple occasions. China will handle the relevant issue per China's laws and regulations. The US needs to provide an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese businesses in the country."
