CPC members exceed 100 million with primary-level organizations grow stronger

The Communist Party of China (CPC) had more than 100.27 million members at the end of 2024, with the membership of the CPC steadily expanding, its structure continuing to improve and primary-level Party organizations growing stronger, according to a statistical report issued Monday ahead of the Party's 104th founding anniversary. 

According to the report released by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the total number of CPC members as of the end of 2024 increased by 1.086 million, or 1.1 percent, from the end of 2023, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday. 

CPC organizations at the primary level continued to improve in 2024. Currently, the CPC has about 5.25 million primary-level organizations, up by 74,000 from the end of 2023, or an increase of 1.4 percent. Among them, there are 306,000 Party committees, 330,000 general Party branches, and 4.614 million Party branches at the primary level in China. 

The structure of the Party membership continued to improve. By the end of 2024, more than 57.786 million Party members, or 57.6 percent of the overall membership, held junior college degrees or above, up 1.4 percentage points from the previous year. Workers and farmers continue to make up the majority of CPC members, accounting for 32.7 percent of all members.

The report reveals that in 2024, a total of 2.131 million new Party members were developed. Among them, the CPC recruited 1.784 million new members aged 35 and below, accounting for 83.7 percent of the total. More than 1.159 million Party members, or 54.4 percent, held junior college degrees or above.

In 2024, the CPC developed over 979,000 female members, accounting for 46 percent of its total new membership. The number of new members from ethnic minority groups was 223,000, accounting for 10.5 percent.

Occupations of the newly recruited Party members included 149,000 workers (including personnel in skilled trades), 346,000 farmers, herders, or fishermen, 299,000 professional and technical personnel from enterprises, public institutions, or social organizations, 221,000 managerial personnel from enterprises, public institutions, or social organizations, 101,000 staff of Party and government organs, 812,000 students, and 203,000 from other occupations. A total of 1.12 million new members were recruited from the front lines of production and work, accounting for 52.6 percent of all new members.

In terms of the Party membership application, as of 2024, there were 21.42 million applicants for Party membership nationwide, including 10.611 million active applicants for Party membership. 

Meanwhile, the education and management of Party members were further strengthened. Party organizations at all levels resolutely implemented the decisions and plans by the CPC Central Committee, and carried out education on Party discipline in a solid manner. The education and training of Party members were further enhanced, with the total number of Party members trained throughout the year increasing by 16.5 percent compared to the previous year. 

In 2024, the incentive and honorary mechanism for Party organizations and members continued to play its due role. During the year, 175,000 primary-level Party organizations and 728,000 Party members were commended . 

A total of 894,000 "50 years of glory" honorary medals were awarded throughout 2024 to veteran Party members who have been in the Party for 50 years or more and have consistently performed well. 

Primary-level Party organizations have been further strengthened and consolidated, with their organizational structure becoming more scientific and standardized. The leadership team of village Party organizations continued to strengthen. Among the 485,000 secretaries of Party organizations in villages, 47.6 percent hold junior college degrees or above, an increase of 3.6 percentage points from the previous year.
