Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian

When asked to comment on Nigerian President Bola Tinubu's announcement through a special advisor that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday in London, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that former President Buhari was an important leader of Nigeria who led the Nigerian people to achieve remarkable accomplishments in national development.

Former President Buhari was also a good friend of the Chinese people and made significant contributions to promoting China-Nigeria relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, said Lin, expressing deep condolences over former President Buhari's passing and extending sincere sympathies to the Nigerian government and people, as well as to former President Buhari's family.
