A blue-background announcement resembling a "police notice" claiming that "Shi Yongxin, abbot of Shaolin Temple, attempted to flee with mistresses and children and was intercepted by relevant authorities" has been circulating online, to which the Kaifeng police in Henan Province responded on Sunday, saying the picture was fake.
A netizen asked "Ping'an Kaifeng" (Safe Kaifeng), the Weibo account of the public security bureau of Kaifeng, Central China's Henan Province, whether the picture circulating online was true, and "Ping'an Kaifeng" replied, "The notice is fake. Please stop spreading it. We are currently carrying out relevant work."
The fake "police notice" claimed it was issued by Kaifeng police.
Shaolin Temple is located in Dengfeng, which is under the jurisdiction of Henan provincial capital Zhengzhou. Kaifeng is roughly 80 kilometers to the east of Zhengzhou.
