There have been at least six people killed and ten people missing in North China's Hebei Province due to the heavy rain.
Four people have been killed, while eight are still missing due to a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in a village in Luanping County in the city of Chengde, North China's Hebei Province, CCTV News reported on Monday.
In Fuping County, Baoding City of Hebei, two were killed and two others were missing due to the latest round of heavy rainfall starting from Friday, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.
To deal with the severe rainstorm and flood disaster affecting Hebei Province, China's national disaster relief authority on Monday initiated a Level IV emergency response, dispatching a working group to the affected areas to assess the situation on the ground and to guide and assist local authorities in ensuring basic living conditions and disaster relief for the affected population.
According to CCTV News, several cities including Chengde, Baoding and Zhangjiakou in Hebei have been severely affected due to heavy rainfall since Friday. China's national disaster relief authority urgently allocated 50 million yuan (roughly $7 million) from the central budget to support the post-disaster restoration, especially the construction of damaged infrastructure and public service facilities such as roads, bridges, water conservancy embankments, schools and hospitals.
Persistent rainfall from Saturday to Sunday in China has caused floods exceeding warning levels in 31 rivers across Hebei, Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Yunnan and Xinjiang, with water levels 0.05 to 3.48 meters above alert thresholds, China News Service reported Monday.
Hebei will still experience heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, with some areas in Chengde, Tangshan and Baoding experiencing extremely heavy rain,e.weather.com under the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) reported on Monday.
