The Chinese Consulate-General in Osaka, Japan on Tuesday reminds Chinese tourists to strengthen safety precautions, saying that several travel safety incidents involving Chinese tourists have occurred recently in its consular district.

Chinese tourists are suggested keep communication channels open and inform family or friends of their travel plans. “Stay alert during your trip, especially in crowded places such as popular tourist attractions, buses and subways. Pay attention to your surroundings and avoid pushing or stampedes,” it said in a statement released on the consulate-general’s official WeChat account on Tuesday.

“Abide by local laws and regulations and respect local customs. Remain calm when problems arise. Avoid conflicts and disputes. Resolve issues through rational communication. And do not take excessive actions to avoid harming your own rights and interests,” read the statement.

The consulate-general also called for Chinese tourists to stay informed about local security conditions, enhance personal safety awareness and carefully choose travel destinations. “Don’t go to areas with poor public security, remote alleys or red-light districts, and refrain from going out alone at night. Do not engage in sexual activities. If you encounter suspicious tailing or emergencies, contact the local police promptly to report the case,” it said.

According to media reports, a Chinese tourist was assaulted and injured in a neck-choking robbery on a street in Osaka Prefecture July 30. The suspect has since been arrested.

Separately, two Chinese men suffered severe injuries after they were attacked on the street by four men using iron pipes in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo on July 31, according to the report by Jiji Press.
