Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao noted at a peace rally held by the Society for Inheriting and Developing the Murayama Statement, a Japanese civic group, on Friday that the Japanese government should face history with sincerity, honor its serious political commitments, completely sever ties with all erroneous acts of distorting, glorifying and denying the history of aggression, and demonstrate through concrete actions its statement of adhering to the path of peaceful development, according to the official WeChat account of the Chinese embassy in Japan on Friday.

The rally, themed building a peaceful world on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of "the end of the Pacific War and Japan's defeat," was attended by about 300 people, including former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and people from all walks of life who advocate peace and oppose war.

Wu said that this year mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The aggressive war launched by Japanese militarism brought untold disasters to the Chinese people and the peoples of other Asian countries. 

After 14 years of bloody struggle, the Chinese people, together with the peoples of other countries, won a great victory in which justice triumphed over evil, light over darkness, and progress over reaction, Wu said, adding that "we should remember history, reflect on the present, and work together to cherish and safeguard peace."

Wu noted that correctly treating and handling historical issues constitutes an important political foundation for the reconstruction and development of China-Japan relations. 

Wu noted that China is willing to work with people of insight from all sectors in Japan to strive for a future of peace, friendship and cooperation between China and Japan on the basis of correctly understanding and inheriting history.
