Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro recently displayed a Huawei phone. In a video from a press conference, he was seen explaining: "I want to learn how to use this new Huawei phone, which is the most advanced in the world," Argentine media ambito.com reported.
"I communicate via satellite with this. I'm looking for a tutorial to learn how to use it," Maduro said.
Maduro's remarks came during the first Pedagogical Congress of Bolivarian Teachers. There, he showcased the device, which is a Huawei Mate X6, ambito.com reported on August 15.
In the video, Maduro, while holding the phone to his ear, said "Hello" and "Thank you" in Chinese.
The foldable model weighs less than 300 grams. It features fast charging at 66 W, with a wireless option at 50 W and reverse wireless charging at 7.5 W, the outlet noted.
Argentine media ANSES wrote that "this gesture not only highlights the diplomatic relations between the two countries but also underscores Maduro's interest in staying connected on a global scale."
This was not the first time that Maduro displayed a Huawei phone.
At the end of
a press conference held in the Venezuelan Embassy in China on September 14, 2023, Maduro showed a Huawei Mate X3 mobile phone, which he praised as an advanced and secure device. He recommended that young people buy it, noting that it could make satellite calls and prevent interruptions, interception, and wiretaps.
During that press conference, Maduro also said that "the economic presence and investments of China in Latin America and the Caribbean are the greatest force for development that the region has today."
