China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to the malicious provocations and attacks by US Southern Command Commander Admiral Alvin Holsey and others, who have ignored the common call of regional countries to promote peace and stability and pursue development and revitalization, openly promoted a zero-sum Cold War mentality, deliberately fabricated the clumsy lie of the so-called "China threat," and vigorously spread security anxiety about bloc confrontation, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Argentina said on Thursday.

China has always followed the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and under the framework of international rules and law, has carried out normal exchanges and cooperation with Latin American countries, the spokesperson said. China never seeks so-called spheres of influence, never engages in geopolitical confrontation, and never targets any third party.

By contrast, the spokesperson said that the US has long regarded Latin America and the Caribbean as its "backyard," frequently imposing tariffs, carrying out forced deportations, stationing troops, and conducting surveillance — all of which disrupt trade and challenge national sovereignty. 

"We urge the US to reflect and change course, to respect the sovereignty and dignity of Latin American and Caribbean countries, and do more to support regional development and unity," the spokesperson added.
