Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council
The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian on Wednesday confirmed that the mainland is inviting people from various sectors, including Taiwan compatriots, to attend commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in Beijing.
Noting that 2025 also marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation in 1945, Zhu stressed that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a magnificent epic written by the entire nation. All Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, made tremendous sacrifices and significant contributions to this cause.
Zhu expressed hope that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will remember history, honor the martyrs, uphold the great spirit of patriotism and the War of Resistance, draw wisdom and strength from history to move forward, and work together to advance the just cause of national reunification and jointly create a bright future for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
In response to media inquiries about Taiwan authorities' recent claims that the Chinese mainland, by saying the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was led by the Communist Party of China (CPC), aiming at asserting that Taiwan is part of China, and thereby misleading the public and misleading the public and international opinion, Zhu said the history of Taiwan's recovery irrefutably proves that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory.
After Japan launched its full-scale invasion of China, the CPC, at a critical moment of national peril, raised the banner of the national united front against Japanese aggression, pursued a strategy of all-out resistance, and fought valiantly, becoming the backbone of the resistance effort, Zhu said.
The guerrilla fronts opened by the CPC and the frontal battlefields commanded by the Chinese Kuomintang Party coordinated with each other, forming a strategic situation to jointly resist Japanese invaders and securing victory in the War of Resistance and the recovery of Taiwan, which had been occupied by Japanese imperialism for 50 years, to return to the motherland, according to the spokesperson.
Zhu noted that during the War of Resistance, the CPC explicitly advocated the recovery of Taiwan, guiding and assisting Taiwan compatriots in forming anti-Japanese armed forces such as the Taiwan volunteer corps, and supporting the Taiwan recovery movement.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities deliberately distort the history of the War of Resistance to promote "Taiwan independence," which Zhu said is not only a betrayal of history but also a desecration of the entire nation's struggle and sacrifices.
No matter what the DPP authorities say, they cannot change the historical facts of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression or the reality that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, she stressed.
In response to DPP authorities' claims that the CPC made no contribution to the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Zhu said the DPP authorities' slander and denial of the CPC's pivotal role in the War of Resistance constitute a grave desecration of all heroic martyrs and a shameless betrayal of the entire Chinese nation.
"This fully exposes their sinister ambition to distort historical facts, incite cross-Straits confrontation, and pursue Taiwan secession by any means," Zhu said.
Zhu expressed hope that the majority of Taiwan compatriots will join the mainland in resisting the DPP authorities' false narratives, defending the correct historical perspective of the War of Resistance, carrying forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance, resolutely opposing Taiwan secession and foreign interference, and safeguarding the shared homeland of the Chinese nation.
