US President Donald Trump declared that the US not only wants but needs Chinese students, and would let 600,000 of them into US universities — twice the current number of Chinese students studying in the US. When asked for comment, especially in light of Chinese Foreign Ministry's recent statement on the treatment of Chinese students in the US, FM spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that educational exchanges and cooperation help enhance mutual understanding among peoples.

China hopes the US will follow through on President Trump's welcoming remarks by ending the unwarranted harassment, questioning and deportation of Chinese students, and genuinely safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, said Guo.
