UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Beijing on Saturday morning to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, CCTV News reported.

Secretary-General Guterres attended the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing summit as a special guest last year. In 2024, he also took part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Astana Summit, according to CCTV.

China is one of the founding members of the UN and the first country to sign the UN Charter. On October 25, 1971, the 26th Session of the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, which restored all the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the UN and recognized the representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China in the organization.
