Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on early Wednesday that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto decided to attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China upon invitation, and has arrived in Beijing in the early morning of September 3.
China welcomes it, a spokesperson from the ministry said.
According to media reports, the escalating large-scale demonstrations in Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia have caused casualties, Prabowo earlier cancelled his trip to China for the SCO Summit and other events.
Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for China's foreign ministry, said on Monday that China has noted the changes in Indonesia's domestic situation and believes that under President Prabowo's leadership, the Indonesian government will be able to properly handle the situation and restore stability as soon as possible. He added that China also hopes Indonesia will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in the country.
