Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro congratulated the Chinese leader and people on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on Wednesday local time, saying that China's victory was also Venezuela's victory, Agencia EFE reported on Thursday.
The Venezuelan leader made the remarks on the occasion of the inauguration of a commemorative monument in Caracas marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Maduro extended his sincere congratulations to Chinese president, the Chinese government, and the Chinese people on the great victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, expressing high respect through this statue, according to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela.
Maduro emphasized that the Chinese people's war of resistance holds great significance for both China and the world, noting that today China has become a leading global power. He stated that Venezuela will learn from China's experience and continue to develop itself, according to the statement.
China is a sister power, a friendly power, a power without imperialist, colonialist, or enslaving ambitions, the Venezuelan leader said during a ceremony broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), according to Agencia EFE.
Maduro also asserted that eight decades later, China is now "the leading economic, commercial, and technological power," Agencia EFE said.
Maduro urged the study of "the epic of the Chinese people and the peoples of Asia (…) when, as he said, the Japanese empire—then militarist, fascist, and criminal—invaded those vast territories." He highlighted what he called China's "heroic and unbreakable resistance," adding that China's victory was also Venezuela's victory, the Spanish media said.
The event, held on Boyacá Avenue in the north of the Venezuelan capital, was attended by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu, top military officials, and diplomatic representatives, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, thanked the Venezuelan government for building the commemorative monument, calling it a reflection of the friendship between the two nations, Xinhua said.
He said the sculpture also represents recognition of both the Chinese and global anti-fascist cause, as well as the firm determination of both countries to resist any aggression or military invasion, per Xinhua.
