On Sunday, the Public Security Bureau of Gaizhou, a city in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, issued a public report on a widely discussed case involving the death of a woman, a local resident, who was brutally beaten by her ex-husband, and later tragically passed away in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU).

According to the report, on August 29, police officers from Wolongquan police station in Gaizhou discovered that a 43 years old local female resident, surnamed Zhang, from Heilongjiang Province, had been sent to the hospital for treatment after being assaulted and injured. The police immediately launched an investigation and identified her 47 year old ex-husband, also surnamed Zhang, from Gaizhou, Liaoning, as the suspect. On August 30, Mr. Zhang was placed under criminal detention. On the evening of September 6, despite medical efforts, the injured Mrs. Zhang passed away. The prosecution authority has approved the arrest of the suspect, and judicial authorities will continue handling the case justly according to the law.

Previously, a woman surnamed Yu had sought help through social media, stating that her 43-year-old mother had been beaten into coma by her ex-husband on August 29 in Yingkou, Liaoning, and had to be sent to the ICU, according to a news report from Jimu News on Friday.

On Saturday, Ms. Yu told reporters that her mother had unfortunately passed away after unsuccessful rescue efforts, said the report.
