In response to a question about Bloomberg's report that Sri Lanka is set to receive a yuan-denominated loan equivalent to $500 million to restart a stalled highway project, and this new loan in yuan would partially replace a $989 million loan agreement reached with the Export-Import Bank of China in 2019 to fund the construction of the highway, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that China and Sri Lanka are friendly neighbors and the two countries carry out cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
"China stands ready to provide support for Sri Lanka's socio-economic development as its capability allows," said Lin. "For the specifics of the cooperation, please refer to competent authorities," the spokesperson added.
