A young man in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi Province, won the lottery six times, with total prizes exceeding 10 million yuan ($1.4 million), Qianjiang Evening News reported on Wednesday. The news has sparked heated discussion online, with the related hashtag garnering over 1 million views on Sina Weibo.
The young man, surnamed Fu, said he began buying lottery tickets in 2023. That July, he won his first prize. In 2024, he won two second prizes, and in 2025, three more. Altogether, the six winning tickets cost him just over 2,000 yuan.
The lottery shop owner confirmed that "He won one first prize and two second prizes at my store," according to the report.
Fu has won across multiple games, including Union Lotto and Super Lotto. After his winnings, he paid off his mortgage and car loans and even bought a property for his parents.
"I'd say research only accounts for about 10 percent — it's mostly luck," he said. At first, he did not want others to know. "When I won the first prize in 2023, I kept my identity private. By 2024, however, my relatives and friends all knew. After everyone who wanted to borrow money or ask for help came forward, I just went public." He added that revealing his identity now has little impact on his life, reported Qiangjiang Evening News.
On the related hashtag page on Sina Weibo, some netizens expressed surprise at the man's luck, while others suggested buying lottery tickets rationally.
