Shenyang Polytechnic College in Northeast China's Liaoning Province has established the country's first bathing and health management college, attracting widespread attention, Jiupai News reported.
The executive president of the local bathing industry association noted that in the bathing sector, managerial staff can earn annual salaries ranging from 400,000 ($55,000) to 500,000 yuan ($70,000), and in some cases even over one million yuan.
When asked about the college's target students, Tang Lizhong, executive president of the local bathing industry association, explained that there are two main groups. The first consists of high school or vocational school graduates, who will earn an associate degree upon graduation. The second group is for specialized skills training; anyone aged 18 or older can enroll, including working adults, to learn skills such as foot care, ear cleaning, Gua Sha message, cupping, and traditional Chinese therapy. After gaining practical experience, students can enter the workforce, Jiupai News reported.
Tang said today's bathing industry integrates multiple business sectors, including catering, entertainment, e-sports, and chess and card games. With such a diverse revenue structure, there is a growing demand for skilled professionals.
Regarding the college's specific training program, Tang explained that it combines theory and practice, covering knowledge such as skin type identification as well as care skills like salt scrubbing, milk scrubbing, and aloe baths. Through the training, practitioners are expected to develop the ability to diagnose different skin types, ultimately integrating theory with hands-on practice, the report said.
"We hope this training approach can not only enhance the skills of experienced practitioners but also attract more people, including the unemployed and migrant workers, to the bathing industry. Although the job of a bath attendant is physically demanding, the income is attractive," Tang said.
"Currently, entry-level employees in the bathing industry earn around 4,000 to 5,000 yuan per month, while managers can make about 10,000 yuan. Store managers' annual salaries can range from 400,000 to 500,000 yuan, and in some cases even exceed one million yuan. There is considerable room for career advancement. Our '2+1' training model is designed to cultivate management-level talent in the industry," Tang added.
