China hopes that Thailand and Cambodia, which are inseparable neighbors and important members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will actively implement the consensus on peace reached by the foreign ministers of China, Thailand and Cambodia, peacefully resolve disputes through dialogue, and restore peace and stability to the border areas at an early date, said Deng Xijun, special envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Thailand over border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand.
Deng visited Thailand on Monday and met with General Sanitchanok Sangkhachan, permanent secretary for Thai Defence Ministry, and Natthapon Nakpanich, director of the Special Operations Center for Thai-Cambodian Border Situations Management and director of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, respectively, according to a release by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
During their meetings, Deng said that China supports ASEAN member countries in playing an active role regarding Cambodia-Thailand border issues and stands ready to continue providing necessary assistance in line with the aspirations of the two sides.
The Thai side highly appreciates China's objective and just position and the constructive role it has played in de-escalating the situation.
Previously, Deng met with Eksiri Pintaruchi, Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, while attending the East Asia Summit Senior Officials' Meeting in Malaysia, according to the ministry.
