When asked to comment on that the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand lodged stern representations with the New Zealand foreign ministry after a Chinese national was recently harassed and questioned by New Zealand authorities while transiting through a local airport, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday he had not yet seen the relevant information, and that he urges the New Zealand side to genuinely respect and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals, adding that the Chinese Embassy will provide necessary consular assistance.

Earlier, the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand has lodged stern representations with the country's foreign ministry after a Chinese national was harassed and questioned by New Zealand security intelligence authorities while transiting through a local airport, with personal electronic devices seized and partly unreturned. Similar incidents have occurred before, according to a statement released on the embassy's official WeChat account.
