When addressing a media inquiry regarding claims from over 200 Zambian residents about pollution by two Chinese companies and a demand for $80 billion in compensation, Chinese FM spokesperson Lin Jian stated that, to his knowledge, relevant companies had acted responsibly, actively cooperating with Zambian authorities in dealing with the situation and compensated those affected, with these measures yielding obvious positive results.

The Zambian government held a press conference on August 7, detailing the progress in the handling of the incident and spoke highly of the work of the Chinese companies, Lin said, adding that he would refer the reporters to check it out.

China has always required Chinese companies overseas to comply with local laws and regulations, conduct operations and production in compliance with the rules, fulfill social responsibility, take strict measures to protect the environment, and at the same time, the Chinese side supports Chinese companies in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests in accordance with the laws, Lin added.
