China’s National Disease Control and Prevention Administration on Tuesday warned of a relatively high risk of vector-borne and natural-focal infectious diseases, citing combined factors of the weather condition, population movement, and the expanded range of host animals, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

According to the administration’s notice on the current situation of key infectious diseases, in recent days there has been a gradual increase in the temperature difference between day and night.

Factors such as increased population movement, frequent rainfall, heightened vector activity, and the expanded range of host animals – combined with the patterns of infectious disease transmission and multi-channel epidemic monitoring – the risk of vector-borne and natural-focal infectious diseases is currently at a relatively high level, the administration said.

The administration also noted an increasing risk of clustered outbreaks of intestinal infectious diseases, such as hand, foot and mouth disease and norovirus. Other acute respiratory infectious diseases such as influenza remain at a low level, according to the administration.

With the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival travel peak approaching, the administration urged the public to closely follow health advisories issued by relevant authorities, stay informed about the epidemic situation at tourism destinations, and take preventive measures in advance.

It also advised against eating raw seafood, touching or cooking dead poultry or animals, and recommended taking precautions against mosquito bites and avoiding group activities if feeling unwell.
