Typhoon Ragasa left 14 dead and 18 injured in Taiwan island as of 6 am on Wednesday, said local authorities, Xinhua News Agency reported. Separately, China Central Television reported that the Hong Kong Observatory issued the Hurricane Signal, No.10 in the early hours of Wednesday, while Macao also hoisted the highest-level tropical cyclone warning signal.
About 100 people remain trapped awaiting rescue, according to Taiwan island's emergency operation center, said Xinhua.
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) issued the Hurricane Signal, No.10, Hong Kong's highest-level tropical cyclone warning — at 2:40 am local time on Wednesday. Shortly after, at 2:45 am, the HKO further issued a Yellow Rainstorm Warning Signal.
Meanwhile, Macao has also activated its highest-level tropical cyclone warning. Affected by Super Typhoon Ragasa, the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau raised the No.10 Storm Signal — Macao's top tropical cyclone warning — at 5:30 am on Wednesday, and the signal is expected to remain in effect for a period of time.
The Signal No.10 indicates that wind force has reached or is expected to reach hurricane level, with sustained winds of over 118 kilometers per hour and gusts potentially exceeding 220 kilometers per hour, according to CCTV News.
As of 5:40 am on Wednesday, Macao had not yet reported severe disaster situations such as extensive tree falls amid the impact of Ragasa. The Macao Civil Protection Operations Centre stated at 3:00 am that a total of nine incident reports had been received, with one person injured. By 5:00 am, 579 people had taken shelter at the emergency refuge centers, according to CCTV News.
