Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
In response to question about reports that US President Donald Trump on Thursday local time signed an executive order to advance the plan for US and global investors to acquire TikTok's US operations from Chinese company ByteDance, saying that the plan will address the national security requirements in a 2024 law, and US Vice President JD Vance said that the joint venture will be valued around $14 billion.
When asked about "whether China's Foreign Ministry can confirm the relevant valuation" at a regular press on Friday, Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, noted on Friday that Chinese authorities have introduced information regarding the basic framework of consensus on resolving issues related to TikTok, which can be consulted.
Guo reiterated that China's position on the TikTok issue is clear. The Chinese government respects the wishes of the company in question, and would be happy to see productive commercial negotiations in keeping with market rules lead to a solution that complies with China's laws and regulations and takes into account the interests of both sides. The US side needs to provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese investors.
