In response to reports that the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, India said on Saturday that a stampede occurred at a rally organized by a well-known actor that day, resulting in at least 36 deaths and more than 50 injuries, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China has noted this unfortunate incident. "We express our deep condolences to the victims and our sincere sympathies to their families and to the injured."

The Chinese Embassy in India conveyed condolences and sympathies at the earliest possible time. There have been no reports of Chinese citizens among the casualties, Guo said.
