US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended congratulations on China's National Day, which falls on October 1.

"On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of China on the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1," Rubio said in a statement released by the US State Department on Tuesday (local time).

"The United States wishes the people of China health, happiness, prosperity, and peace in the year ahead," he added.

Wednesday marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the PRC.
