A 34-year-old man has been put under criminal custody for allegedly molesting a 7-year-old girl on a high-speed train in South China, according to a notice issued by the Guangzhou railway police on its official Sina Weibo account Tuesday afternoon.

According to the notice, at 5:37 pm on October 3, railway police on duty aboard D1819 received a report of a suspected molestation. A preliminary investigation found that the incident had occurred two minutes earlier, at 5:35 pm, on the same train.

The man, surnamed Yu, allegedly molested a seven-year-old girl in Car No. 7. The girl's mother discovered the incident, immediately intervened, and reported it to the onboard railway police. Officers responded promptly and handed Yu over to the local railway police station.

Yu is currently under criminal custody by railway police on suspicion of child molestation, and the case remains under further investigation, according to the notice.

Police also urged the public to protect minors' privacy and well-being , safeguard the lawful rights of those involved, and refrain from spreading rumors online. They warned that anyone who intentionally spreads false information to disrupt social order will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
