When commenting on a so-called report on “how US visa policies enable China’s defense entities to tap US higher education” recently issued by a committee of the US House of Representatives, which slandered and recommended restricting normal educational exchanges and cooperation between China and the US, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated Thursday that the committee has consistently attacked and smeared China for political purposes and has no credibility whatsoever.
According to Guo, in response to its egregious actions, China has already made solemn representations to the US side. We wish to emphasize that China-US educational exchanges and cooperation are mutually beneficial, align with the common interests and expectations of both sides, and contribute to enhancing interactions and understanding between the peoples of the two countries, stated Guo.
The spokesperson stated that certain US politicians have been stretching the concept of national security to interfere with and undermine normal exchanges and cooperation in education and cultural fields between China and the US. Such actions are unpopular and doomed to fail.
“We urge the US side to implement President Trump’s statement welcoming Chinese students to study in the US and to cease harming the interests of relevant parties and China-US relations,” Guo said, noting that China will closely monitor the words and actions of the US side and take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard China’s legitimate rights and interests.
