The Sihanoukville police in Cambodia announced that authorities recently uncovered a major criminal case involving the safety of Chinese citizens and arrested several suspects, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia said on Tuesday.

On September 20, police in Sihanoukville successfully rescued two Chinese nationals who had jumped from a vehicle on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway. Local authorities freed four Chinese victims—including one woman—and arrested six suspects, also all Chinese nationals. A large amount of evidence was seized at the scene, according to a statement from the Chinese embassy.

According to local authorities, the criminal group had long been targeting Chinese nationals, engaging in crimes such as illegal detention, kidnapping for ransom, and human trafficking. The case is now under further investigation by the Sihanoukville police.

In a separate incident, Phnom Penh police recently raided a telecom fraud den in the Sen Sok district, arresting 18 Chinese suspects. One key suspect has been formally charged and placed in pretrial detention, while the remaining 17 will be deported in accordance with the law.

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has urged Cambodian authorities to thoroughly investigate the cases, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure the safety and security of Chinese citizens living in the country.
