In response to Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te claiming to build a so-called "Taiwan Shield" air defense system and increase Taiwan's defense spending to 3%-5% of GDP in the so-called "Double Ten" speech, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated Wednesday that the Lai authorities stubbornly adheres to a separatist stance of "Taiwan independence."

For the selfish interests of the party, Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities vainly attempt to "seek independence through military buildup." They recklessly squander public funds, promote "universal military service," and tie the Taiwan residents to the chariot of "Taiwan independence." This poses the greatest threat to the security and interests of the Taiwan residents, said Chen.

The spokesperson pointed out that the DPP authorities are willingly acting as a "cash machine" for American arms dealers, wasting money that could be used to improve livelihoods and develop the economy on weapons purchases and currying favor with external forces. This will not only fail to buy "security," but will accelerate Taiwan's slide into a potential dangerous and volatile conflict, Chen said,

The trend toward national reunification is unstoppable. "Seeking independence by relying on the US" is doomed to fail, and "seeking independence through military buildup" will only accelerate one's own downfall, stated the spokesperson.
