Expressway traffic police in North China's Hebei Province dispatched a drone carrying emergency medical supplies to help a driver suffering a suspected hypoglycemic episode on the highway, marking an example of how smart policing is saving lives, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
Recently, the command center of the expressway traffic police in Hebei received an urgent call for help. A woman surnamed Liu reported that while driving on the highway, she suddenly felt weak, dizzy, and anxious - symptoms of low blood sugar - and was unable to continue driving, had to pull over in the emergency lane.
The command center immediately activated its emergency response protocol, dispatching a nearby police drone equipped with a first-aid medical kit to fly to the scene.
Using real-time video, officers quickly located Liu's vehicle and guided the drone to land safely in the emergency lane. The drone delivered a kit containing candy and chocolate, helping Liu rapidly restore her blood sugar levels.
Meanwhile, two officers drove to the scene in a patrol car. Upon arrival, they found that Liu's symptoms had eased but she still felt weak and was hesitant to drive.
For safety reasons, one officer took the wheel and drove Liu off the expressway to a nearby safe area, where her family later met her.
The incident has drawn widespread praise from netizens, who lauded the efficiency and compassion of the rescue, and reminded drivers that severe hypoglycemia can be life-threatening, urging them to keep quick-energy snacks in their cars to prevent emergencies.
