In response to a media inquiry regarding the US' announcement of visa restrictions on citizens of Central American nations and their immediate family members who engage in cooperation with the Communist Party of China, and about the US threats against businesses in the region aimed at pressuring them to not cooperate with Chinese state-owned enterprises, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China has made its position clear and lodged stern representations with the US. The US waving its "visa stick" will not intimidate those with true vision, nor will it stop the trend of deepening relations between China and Central American countries, said the spokesperson.
The US, under the pretext of "rule of law," is in fact acting illegally by imposing unilateral sanctions, engaging in political suppression and economic coercion against regional countries and individuals. Such actions place domestic law above international law and obligations, infringe upon other countries' legitimate rights and interests, and seriously violate the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs, gravely undermining international order. This is a typical act of hegemony, Guo said.
Guo noted that US has been making wanton accusations and meddling in the normal exchanges between Central American countries and China. "These allegations are malicious, groundless, and show a fundamental lack of respect for the Central American nations," said Guo, adding that they once again expose Washington's domineering and bullying behavior, as well as the deep-rooted arrogance and prejudice of certain US politicians.
China will continue to be a good friend and good partner to Central American countries, working together for common development and revitalization, and jointly building a China-Latin America community with a shared future, said Guo.
