The Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a reception at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on Saturday to mark the establishment of the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration. Guests from various sectors in Taiwan island along with representatives from the Chinese mainland, attended the event, according to CCTV News.

China's national legislature on Friday voted to designate October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration. The state will hold commemorative activities in various forms on this day, according to the decision adopted at the five-day session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), which opened on Friday, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

At the reception on Saturday, Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that under the decision of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress had, in strict accordance with legal procedures, deliberated and voted to establish the Commmemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration as this year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, CCTV reported.

Song said the establishment fully embodies the will of the people and the resolve of the state. The establishment of Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration is a significant step to honor history and the martyrs who sacrificed for national liberation; a strong statement of China's firm adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to "Taiwan independence" and external interference; and a clear expression of support for all patriotic and pro-reunification forces.

We have the strength to defeat any separatist attempt for "Taiwan independence" and to advance the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, Song said, per CCTV.

"We are determined to deepen exchanges and cooperation across the Straits, to strengthen the shared sense of belonging to the Chinese nation, and to firmly advance the cause of national reunification. With full confidence and resolve, we will overcome all challenges and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," Song said.

Chi Hsing, publisher of The Observer magazine, said that the establishment of Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration reflects the shared aspirations of many Taiwan compatriots. Chi noted that the commemoration will awaken the collective memory of people across the Straits, inspire Taiwan compatriots to remember history, uphold the patriotic spirit, and take pride in being upright Chinese citizens based on the fact that both sides of the Straits belong to one China, while contributing to national reunification and rejuvenation.

Attending guests from Taiwan island said the timing and significance of establishing Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration could not be greater. They noted that it will strengthen the awareness that people on both sides of the Straits are Chinese, bolster the determination to oppose "Taiwan independence" and foreign interference, and unite the shared strength of all Chinese people in advancing national reunification and rejuvenation, according to CCTV News.

Following the reception, Taiwan guests visited the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, per CCTV.
