In Kaifeng city, Central China's Henan Province, a delivery rider climbed an exterior wall to rescue a boy dangling from a fourth-floor window guard, drawing millions of likes online, according to multiple media reports.
Last Saturday, a boy hung outside a fourth-floor security window, his neck trapped in a narrow gap along the window edge and his limbs flailing. Below, neighbors held a bed-sheet as a safety net, while inside, his mother clung to his hand—her physical strength was visibly failing.
Cui Yulong, the delivery rider, rushed over, used window grates and a gas pipe as footholds, climbed to the third-floor grate and pulled the boy safely back inside.
The child was confirmed unharmed after a medical examination. "I'm a father myself. I didn't think of anything else at that moment, just focused on climbing up to save the child," Cui said, adding that only after climbing down did the fear hit, leaving him "drained and weak."
After the video of rescuing was posted online, drawing strong reactions, Cui earned widespread praise from netizens for his brave and righteous deed.
Staff from multiple government departments in Kaifeng visited Cui to express their respect, presenting him with flowers and gifts. The rescued child's parents and Cui's employer each honored him with a large red silk banner, a traditional Chinese symbol of gratitude and commendation, according to the official Wechat account of Bianliang Evening News.
When talking to his son, who got very excited for having a "hero father, " Cui said, "Dad just did the right thing," as reported by Topnews.
