The 14th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee on Saturday passed the decision on holding grand commemorative activities to mark the 160th birth anniversary of Sun Yat-sen, a great national hero, a great patriot, and a great forerunner of China's democratic revolution, on November 12, 2026, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday.
The commemoration aims to honor Sun Yat-sen's immortal contributions to national independence, social progress, and the people's well-being; to learn from, inherit, and carry forward his patriotic ideals, revolutionary will, and striving spirit; to strengthen unity among Chinese people at home and abroad, Xinhua reported.
The commemoration also aims to consolidate and expand the broadest possible patriotic united front; to promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Straits and advancing the cause of national reunification; and to unite the strength of the entire nation to the greatest extent, and to strive unceasingly for advancing the building of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, Xinhua reported.
Sun Yat-sen, born in 1866 in South China's Guangdong Province, played a leading role in the 1911 Revolution, which overthrew the imperial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and ended more than 2,000 years of feudal rule in China.
