At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, King Felipe VI of Spain will pay a state visit to China from November 10 to 13, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson announced Monday.

This is the first state visit to China by King Felipe VI since he ascended to the throne, and also the first visit by a Spanish king to China in 18 years, which holds great significance. During this visit, President Xi, Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji   will meet with King Felipe VI respectively to exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, spokesperson Mao Ning said.

Spain is a major country in the EU and an important strategic partner of China in Europe. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Spain relations have maintained high-level development in recent years, Mao said.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership. China is willing to work with Spain, taking King Felipe VI's visit to China as an opportunity, to consolidate traditional friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen multilateral coordination, and promote the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership to achieve more results, Mao said, adding that this will better benefit the people of both countries and inject more stability and positive energy into the international situation fraught with changes and chaos.
