Astronomers predict that the largest supermoon of 2025 will light up the night sky on Wednesday evening, chinanews.com reported.

At around 9:19 pm on Wednesday night, the moon will appear at its fullest. Nine hours later, it will pass its perigee, approximately 357,000 kilometers from Earth — the closest approach to our planet among all full moons in 2025, the report said.

At that time, the moon will appear larger and brighter than usual, a phenomenon scientifically defined as a "supermoon," the report said.

The upcoming event is regarded as the largest supermoon of 2025, drawing wide attention from Chinese netizens.

As of 10 am on Wednesday, related topics had generated over 3,500 interactions and nearly 2,000 discussions on China's X-like platform Weibo within 24 hours.

The optimal viewing time is within one hour after sunset, according to the Beijing Planetarium.

When the moon first rises above the horizon, people naturally perceive objects near it as larger. With buildings or landscapes as visual references, the supermoon appears even more massive and spectacular than when high overhead.

Urban vantage points, landmark observation decks, suburban hilltops, and coastal areas are all ideal spots for viewing.

A supermoon also appeared on October 7, and another will light up the sky on December 5, according to the report.
