More than 80,000 people from maritime areas in East China's Fujian and Zhejiang provinces have been evacuated ahead of Typhoon Fung-wong, which is expected to make landfall or pass by on Wednesday, China News Service reported.

Fung-wong, the 26th named storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season, is currently located over the central-eastern region of the South China Sea and is expected to make landfall on the southwestern coast of Taiwan between Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening, with winds reaching force 10 to force 12, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The Typhoon had already caused casualties on Taiwan island. As of Wednesday morning, 51 people had been injured and 118 cases of waterlogging were reported, according to local media. Additionally, 8,326 people had been evacuated, said the report.

China's National Meteorological Center issued a blue typhoon alert at 10 am on Wednesday, noting that Fung-wong is likely to be the last typhoon to make landfall in China this year, significantly later than the average timing of the last annual typhoon, China News Service reported.

Typhoon Fung-wong will bring strong winds, said the report. Due to its interaction with cold air and the funneling effect of the Taiwan Straits it may generate unusually powerful gusts in the Straits and nearby coastal areas, potentially even breaking records for November gusts, according to China News Service.

Between 2 pm Wednesday and 2 pm Thursday, wind in parts of the southwestern East China Sea, the Taiwan Straits, the northeastern parts of South China Sea, and along the western coast of Taiwan island is expected to reach force 9, with gusts of force 10-11, China News Service said.

According to China Weather Network, eastern Zhejiang will be the core area affected by this Typhoon's rainfall, with precipitation potentially lasting three days. From Wednesday to Thursday, eastern parts of Zhejiang, northern and southern parts of Taiwan island are expected to see heavy to torrential rain.

To prepare for the typhoon and ensure maritime safety, all 2,904 fishing vessels operating in Fujian's waters had returned to port, and more than 55,000 people had been evacuated from maritime areas in the province, the report said.

By 11 am Wednesday, 69 passenger ferry routes and 180 ferries along Fujian's coast had suspended service. Four Mini Three Links, which refers to small-scale trade, shipping and postal services between Fujian Province, Kinmen Island and the Matsu Island group, were also halted.

A total of 124 waterway construction projects were suspended, affecting 295 construction vessels.

Zhejiang has also stepped up precautions against the typhoon.

By 3 pm Wednesday, 29,462 people had been relocated in the province, including 27,856 from maritime fishing vessels and 1,606 from maritime aquaculture operations.

China Railway Nanchang Group in East China's Jiangxi Province said it would suspend or impose speed restrictions on some high-speed rail lines and passenger services on Wednesday.
