Several tourist attractions in regions such as East China's Zhejiang Province and Southwest China's Sichuan Province have recently seen a travel boom as multiple regions rolled out autumn holidays for primary and secondary schools for the first time. The scenic areas have begun implementing visitor flow control as tourist numbers approached or reached full capacity.
Many students in Zhejiang's primary and secondary schools are starting their first statutory autumn break this November, according to the provincial education department. In Sichuan, primary and secondary school students had their first autumn break between November 12 to 14, according to the provincial education authorities.
The Xiling Snow Mountain scenic area in Sichuan on Thursday and Friday released visitor capacity control notices, saying that visitors without bookings were advised not to go. A hotline staff member for the scenic area told the Global Times on Sunday that some of the scenic area tickets were sold out because visitor capacity was nearly full.
The Siguniang Mountain scenic area in Sichuan on Wednesday and Thursday issued notices, suggesting visitors go to nearby attractions because tickets were sold out.
Under the autumn break policy, there will definitely be an increase in visitors, an employee from the Shenxianju scenic area in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, told the Global Times on Sunday.
The employee noted that the scenic area has crowd-control measures in place — the same on regular days and during holidays. When reservations or the day's visitor numbers reach the site's capacity, it will implement flow restrictions, said the employee. About half of the groups are parent-child groups for the autumn holiday, according to the employee.
Visitor numbers at Shenxianju scenic area reached capacity for Sunday. The area will close online and on site ticketing and free-admission channels for Sunday and implement crowd control measures, according to a notice released by the scenic area on Saturday.
According to Chengdu Fabu on Friday, Chengdu and its surrounding areas have seen a travel boom in recent days. Platform data show that during the autumn holiday, total ticket bookings within Sichuan were 3.4 times higher year-on-year and 1.4 times higher than in the five days before the holiday.
Data from online travel platform Ctrip show that starting from November 12, tourism bookings in many parts of Zhejiang doubled year-on-year, with family trips with children accounting for 46 percent. Beijing, Shanghai, and Sanya have become popular choices for many family outings, according to the Xinhua News Agency on Friday.
